HORSEBACK RIDING

Exploring the Rocky Mountains on horseback is like stepping back in time. Hundreds of miles of trails in the Pike National Forest are open to horses. Mueller State Park has a trail ride operation and horse-friendly trails. Dome Rock State Wildlife Area has a variety of loop trails and parking for horse trailers. Trails vary from wide, level roads to narrow singletrack paths that wind through the forest. Sitting in the saddle frees riders from watching the trail, instead offering more time to watch for wildlife.
There are several outfitters in the area that offer everything from one hour trail rides to all day rides. Some even offer pack trips. Following is a list of the local outfitters.
Golden Eagle Outfitters is located approximately 3 miles northwest of Divide on County Road 512 off County Road 5. Phone: 719-686-7373 or 719-331-2946, or go to www.goldeneagleoutfitters.com.
The season runs Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day.
